Boyd Dunlop Morehead (born 24 August 1843 – died 30 October 1905) was an important politician in Queensland, Australia. He served as the Premier of Queensland from November 1888 to August 1890. A Premier is like the leader of the state government.

Early Life and Business
Boyd Morehead was born in Sydney, New South Wales. He was the second child of Robert Archibald Alison Morehead and Helen Buchanan.
He went to Sydney Grammar School. Later, in 1860, he started at the University of Sydney. However, he did not finish his studies there. Instead, he joined the Bank of New South Wales. This is where he learned a lot about finance (managing money).
After his time at the bank, he worked for the Australian Investments Company. In 1866, he visited Queensland as a station inspector.
In 1873, Boyd Morehead started his own company. It was called B. D. Morehead and Company. This firm was known for being general merchants and agents for buying and selling livestock and properties. Later, it became known as Moreheads Limited.

Joining the Legislative Assembly
On 4 September 1871, Morehead was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. This is like the main parliament for the state. He represented the Mitchell electorate. He won this seat again in the 1873 and 1878 elections.
In December 1880, he left the Legislative Assembly. The very next day, he was appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council. This is another part of the state's parliament.
Roles in Government
While in the Legislative Council, Morehead joined the government led by Thomas McIlwraith. He became the Postmaster-General. This meant he was in charge of postal services. He also represented the government in the Legislative Council. He held these roles until August 1883.
On 5 October 1883, Morehead was elected back to the Legislative Assembly. This time, he represented the Balonne area. He stayed in this role until April 1896.
When Samuel Griffith became Premier in November 1883, Morehead became the leader of the opposition. This means he led the group of politicians who were not in power. He held this important position for several years.
Becoming Premier
In June 1888, Thomas McIlwraith became Premier again. Morehead served as his Colonial Secretary. This was a very senior role in the government.
When McIlwraith stepped down, Boyd Morehead took over. He became the Premier of Queensland on 30 November 1888. He also continued as Colonial Secretary. He served as Premier until 12 August 1890. After this, he took a long trip to Europe.
In 1893, there was a big financial crisis. This caused Morehead to lose a lot of money from his investments. He was also offered a job as an agent-general that year, but he turned it down.
Later Political Years
On 10 June 1896, Morehead was appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council again. He remained a member of the Council until he passed away on 30 October 1905.
Family Life
Boyd Morehead was married two times. His first wife was Annabella Campbell Ranken. They got married on 4 June 1873 and had seven daughters. Annabella passed away in 1890.
His second wife was Ethel Seymour. They married in Brisbane on 3 April 1895. They had one daughter together.
A famous author, P. L. Travers, was Boyd Morehead's niece. P. L. Travers wrote the popular Mary Poppins books.
Later Life and Legacy
Boyd Morehead died on 30 October 1905 in Brisbane. He was 62 years old. His funeral took place from his son-in-law's home in Wooloowin. He was buried at the Toowong Cemetery.
In 1993, a botanist named F.M. Bailey honored him. He named a type of bamboo Bambusa moreheadiana. Later, in 2005, this plant was renamed Mullerochloa moreheadiana.
