How Did Boydsville Get Its Name?
The story of Boydsville goes back to the 1800s. In 1837, a post office was opened in the Tennessee part of the community. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office was very important for the people living there.
The person in charge of this first post office was named Abner Boyd. He was the very first postmaster, which is the person who runs the post office. Abner Boyd was so important to the community that they decided to name the place after him! That's how it became known as Boydsville.
The post office in Boydsville stayed open for several years. However, in 1853, it was closed down. Even though the post office is gone, the name Boydsville has remained, telling a bit of its history.
