The Boyer Candy Company is an American candy company. It is located in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The factory is right in the middle of the city. Boyer Candy is owned by Consolidated Brands. The Forgione family owns Consolidated Brands.
History of Boyer Candy
Boyer Candy was started by two brothers, Bill and Bob Boyer. This was during the Great Depression, a time when many people needed to find ways to earn money. The brothers began making candy in their own kitchen. Their mother and sister helped wrap the candies by hand. Bob sold the candy by going door to door.
At first, they made fudge and nut raisin clusters. As more people wanted their candy, they made more kinds. In 1936, they moved to a new factory. That same year, they created the Mallo Cup. This candy is a cup shape with whipped marshmallow cream inside. It is covered with chocolate.
In 1969, Bill and Bob Boyer retired from the company. Another company, American Maize-Products, bought Boyer. A large new warehouse was built in 1970.
In 1984, American Maize sold Boyer Candy to Consolidated Brands. Anthony Forgione, who started Consolidated Brands, became the new president. The main office for the company moved to Altoona, Pennsylvania.
After Anthony Forgione passed away in 2001, his family friend Roy Mollomo became president. Later, in 2008, Anthony Forgione II, Anthony Forgione's son, became the president. Robert Faith became the CEO.
Boyer Candies and Products
For many years, Boyer candies have had special cardboard inserts inside their wrappers. These inserts have pictures of coins. You can save these "coins" and trade them for prizes from the company's catalog. This fun tradition still continues today!
Popular Candies
The Boyer Mallo Cup is a famous candy. It is a milk chocolate cup with a whipped marshmallow center. It was first made in 1936.
Boyer also makes other candies. Smoothies are cups with a peanut butter center. They are covered with a butterscotch-like coating. Peanut Butter Cups have a peanut butter center covered in chocolate. The company has also made other cup candies. These include Fluffernutter, which mixes marshmallow and peanut butter with chocolate. They also made a Minty Mallo.
In April 2017, Boyer released a new candy called Jimmie Stix. This was their first new product in 25 years. It is a mix of pretzels and peanut butter covered in milk chocolate. The wrapper looks like the old Mallo Cup wrappers. The company said this new candy brings back old memories while also being modern.

In September 2018, Boyer bought the Clark Bar. This candy has been around since 1917. It was important to keep this Pennsylvania candy going. At first, it was hard to make the Clark Bar exactly the same way. So, Boyer made a new product called the Clark Cup. They used pieces of the Clark Bar mixed with peanut butter for the filling. The original Clark Bar was brought back to stores on February 14, 2020.
Company Growth
In 2016, Boyer was the only chocolate maker in the United States that showed strong growth. Their sales grew by 20.9%. This was a big achievement, even though they are smaller than huge companies like Mars and Hershey.
