Boñar is a small town and a larger area called a municipality in the province of León, Castile and León, Spain. In 2010, about 2,085 people lived in the municipality. Most of these people live in the main town of Boñar.

The municipality also includes several smaller villages. These are places like Adrados, Barrio de las Ollas, Las Bodas, Cerecedo, Colle, Llama, Felechas, Grandoso, Orones, Oville, Poblado del Pantano, Remellán, Rucayo, Valdecastillo, Valdehuesa, La Vega de Boñar, Veneros, Vozmediano, and Voznuevo. Many of these villages have only a few permanent residents. Some larger ones can have up to 250 people.

Exploring the Town of Boñar

Boñar is usually a quiet town. However, it gets very busy during the summer months. Many people from northern Spain visit Boñar to escape the crowded cities near the coast. They often own summer homes here and return every year. They love the peaceful countryside, which is perfect for outdoor fun.

Fun Activities in Boñar

A popular spot in Boñar is El Soto. This is a large park run by the town. It has a snack bar, a swimming pool, and places for camping. You can also find ball fields and tennis courts there. The Porma River runs through El Soto, offering chances for boating and fishing.

The Parque Regional de los Picos de Europa is another great place for outdoor activities. In spring and summer, you can hike and explore the pine and leafy forests in the mountains. When winter arrives, skiing and other snow sports become popular.

The Vegamián Reservoir

Many locals and tourists visit the Pantano de Vegamián, which is a large reservoir. This reservoir was created in 1968. To build it, six small villages had to be covered by water. These villages were emptied and no longer exist.

Visitors to the Pantano de Vegamián come to see the beautiful natural area. They also try to catch a glimpse of the submerged villages. The water is very clear, so you can sometimes see the old buildings below the surface. The reservoir is also important because it provides water and electricity for much of the León province.
