Branden James Dawson (born February 1, 1993) is an American professional basketball player. He was born in Gary, Indiana. Branden played college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans. In his final year at Michigan State, he helped his team reach the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.

High School Basketball Journey
Branden Dawson played high school basketball at Lew Wallace High School. He was coached by Renaldo Thomas. In his first year, he had to sit out for a while because of school rules.
After his senior year, Branden was chosen for the 2011 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. This is a special game for the best high school players in the country. In his senior season, he helped his team win the sectional championship. He scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and made 6 steals in that game.
In the regional finals, Branden scored 28 points and had 15 rebounds. Even with his great effort, his team lost the game. As a senior, he averaged 28.7 points, 18.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. Experts like Rivals.com and Scout.com rated him as a five-star recruit. This means he was considered one of the top players in the nation.
College Basketball Career
Branden Dawson received offers from many top colleges. These included Purdue, Indiana, and UCLA. In August 2010, he decided to play for Michigan State.
In his very first game for the Spartans, he scored 15 points and had 9 rebounds. This was an exhibition game, which is like a practice game. In his first official game, he scored 10 points. Sadly, his first year ended early when he hurt his left knee. Even so, he averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a freshman.
In his second year, Branden started strong with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first game. He continued to play well, often getting double-doubles (scoring at least 10 points and 10 rebounds). He improved his averages to 8.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
In January 2014, during his junior year, Branden broke his right hand. He missed 9 games because of this injury. When he returned, he helped Michigan State win the 2014 Big Ten men's basketball tournament championship. He was even named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. That season, he averaged 11.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
As a senior, Branden was recognized as one of the best players in the Big Ten Conference. He was named to the Second-team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten All-Defensive Team. He averaged 11.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He helped his team reach the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. He said that reaching the Final Four was a main reason he chose Michigan State.
During his four years at Michigan State, Branden played in 130 games. He started in 121 of them. He averaged 10.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. When he graduated, he was Michigan State's all-time leader in blocked shots, with 142 blocks.

Professional Basketball Career
Playing for the Los Angeles Clippers (2015–2016)
On June 25, 2015, Branden Dawson was chosen by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2015 NBA draft. He was the 56th player picked overall. Later that night, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. After playing well in the NBA Summer League, he signed a two-year contract with the Clippers.
During his first season, Branden also played for teams in the NBA Development League. These teams included the Bakersfield Jam, Grand Rapids Drive, and Erie BayHawks. He made his NBA debut on December 28, 2015. On January 2, 2016, he scored his first two NBA points. The Clippers later decided to let him go on July 17, 2016.
Time with the Erie BayHawks (2016–2017)
On September 8, 2016, Branden signed with the Orlando Magic. However, he was released before the season started. On October 29, he joined the Erie BayHawks again. He played for them as a player connected to the Magic. He left the BayHawks on March 29, 2017.
Playing in Israel and Japan (2017–2018)
After leaving the BayHawks, Branden signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. in Israel. He played 8 games there, averaging 8 points and 4.6 rebounds.
On August 13, 2017, Branden moved to Japan. He signed with the Sun Rockers Shibuya team in the Japanese B. League. He played 10 games for them, averaging 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds.
Playing in Mexico (2018–2019)
On December 19, 2018, Branden signed with Soles de Mexicali in Mexico. On January 9, 2019, he had an amazing game. He scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. He also had seven assists in that game. In 21 games for Soles de Mexicali, he averaged 14.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. He also played for the Gigantes de Jalisco in Mexico.
Return to Israel and Taiwan (2019–2023)
On November 29, 2019, Branden signed a short contract with Bnei Herzliya in Israel. He played only two games there due to an injury.
In November 2020, Branden moved to Taiwan. He signed with Kaohsiung Jeoutai Technology in the Super Basketball League. He played for them until February 2021.
On February 15, 2021, Branden signed with Hsinchu JKO Lioneers in Taiwan's P. League+. In his first game, he scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds. He returned to the team for the next season.
On November 2, 2022, Branden signed with TaiwanBeer HeroBears in the T1 League. His contract with them ended on April 4, 2023.

Branden Dawson was born on February 1, 1993. His parents are Leon Albritton and Cassandra Dawson. Branden earned a degree in sociology from Michigan State University. He is a father to a son named My'Shawn.
