Brandon Hammond, born on February 6, 1984, is an American actor who was very popular as a child in the 1990s. He starred in movies like Waiting to Exhale (1995), Mars Attacks! (1996), and Soul Food (1997). He even won an NAACP Image Award for his amazing acting in Soul Food!
On TV, Brandon was a regular on the Western show Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (1996−98) and the comedy The Gregory Hines Show (1997−98). He was nominated for a Young Artist Award for his role in The Gregory Hines Show. You might also remember him playing a young Michael Jordan in the 1996 family movie Space Jam.
Brandon's last acting role was in the TV movie Our America (2002). As an adult, he now works behind the scenes as a filmmaker, writing and directing short films.

Brandon's Early Life
Brandon La Ron Hammond was born on February 6, 1984, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His mom, Alfreda Williams, helped manage his acting career from the start.
His Acting Journey
Brandon started acting when he was just 6 years old! He appeared in commercials for Chevrolet and also in public service announcements.
His first movie role was in Menace II Society (1993), where he played the younger version of the main character, Caine. After that, he appeared in Strange Days and Waiting to Exhale, both released in 1995. Brandon also starred as Walter in the spooky movie Tales from the Hood (1995), playing a young boy who was afraid of his stepfather. In 1996, he played Marcus Jr. in the TV movie The Road to Galveston.

In 1996, Brandon was in three big movies:
- He played Sean Rayburn in The Fan. Sean was the son of Wesley Snipes' character and was kidnapped by Gil, played by Robert De Niro.
- He was Neville Williams in Tim Burton's sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks!.
- He played a young Michael Jordan in the popular movie Space Jam.
Soul Food Success
In 1997, Brandon played the character of Ahmad in the movie Soul Food. People really loved his performance! Critics said he was the best actor in the film, calling him a natural with talent far beyond his age. In 1998, he won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Youth Actor for his role as Ahmad.
TV Show Roles
Brandon had a regular role on the TV series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman during its last two seasons. He played Anthony, an adopted son of Grace and Robert E. He continued in this role until his character was written out of the show.
He also played Matty Stevenson, the son of the main character, in the comedy show The Gregory Hines Show (1997−98). A reviewer from The New York Times said that Brandon and Gregory Hines had great chemistry on screen. In 1998, Brandon was nominated for two awards, a Young Artist Award and a YoungStar Award, for his acting in The Gregory Hines Show.
Guest Appearances and Later Roles
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Brandon made guest appearances on many TV shows. These included Coach, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Dave's World, Early Edition, and The West Wing. He also appeared in the crime drama Blue Hill Avenue (2001).
Brandon's most recent acting role was as Lloyd Newman in the 2002 Showtime film Our America. He earned his third Young Artist Award nomination for his acting in Our America.
Life After Acting
After his acting career, Brandon went to Saddleback College. There, he made a student film called Summer Blame (2006), which was nominated at the Newport Beach Film Festival. Brandon also wrote a short film called Amaru. In 2020, Amaru won the award for best screenwriting at the John Singleton Short Film Competition.
