The Bras de Ross (which means "Ross's Arm" in English) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into Brébeuf Lake. This river runs through the areas of Ferland-et-Boilleau and Rivière-Éternité. These places are part of the Le Fjord-du-Saguenay Regional County Municipality, which is in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
The lower part of the Ross Valley is within the Zec du Lac-Bébeuf. A "Zec" is a special area in Quebec where outdoor activities are managed. The valley of the "Bras de Ross" is served by Chemin du Lac-Brébeuf. This road helps people get around for activities like forestry, farming, and tourism. Other smaller forest roads also lead into this valley.
The main economic activity here is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Tourism, like visiting for fun, is the second most important activity. The river's surface usually freezes from early December to late March. However, it's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.

Where is the Bras de Ross?
The Bras de Ross is located in a beautiful natural area. It starts from a lake called Lac du Berger, which is high up in a valley between mountains. This lake is fed by other smaller lakes.
The river then flows for about 21.6 km (13.4 mi) (about 13.4 miles). Along its path, the river drops about 199 m (653 ft) (about 653 feet) in height.
The River's Journey
The Bras de Ross has two main parts:
Upper Course
The first part of the river is about 10.4 km (6.5 mi) long. It flows through a small lake and then past other lakes. It also goes through a valley between two mountains and crosses part of Lake Potvin. Along this section, it collects water from several smaller lakes and streams.
Lower Course
The second part of the river is about 11.2 km (7.0 mi) long. It continues to flow through a deep valley. It forms curves around mountains and collects water from more lakes and streams. This part of the river also has some rapids, which are fast-flowing sections.
The Bras de Ross finally empties into a bay on the southwest side of Brébeuf Lake.
Connected Waterways
The Bras de Ross is part of a larger water system. After it flows into Brébeuf Lake, the water then travels through:
- Brébeuf Lake for about 6.8 km (4.2 mi) to the east.
- The Saint-Jean River for about 38.8 km (24.1 mi) to the northeast.
- Saint-Jean Bay for about 2.9 km (1.8 mi) to the north.
- The mighty Saguenay River for about 42.8 km (26.6 mi) eastward.
Finally, the water from the Bras de Ross joins the huge Saint Lawrence estuary near Tadoussac.
What's in a Name?
The name "Ross" is a family name that comes from England. So, "Bras de Ross" simply means "Ross's Arm."
The name "bras de Ross" was officially recognized on December 5, 1968, by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
