Brendan Bowyer (born October 12, 1938 – died May 28, 2020) was a very popular Irish singer. He was best known for being the lead singer of two famous bands, The Royal Showband and The Big Eight. He had five songs that reached number one in Ireland!
Brendan Bowyer was also famous because The Beatles once opened a concert for his band, The Royal Showband. This happened on April 2, 1962, in Liverpool, England. It was about six months before The Beatles released their very first hit song, "Love Me Do".
Early Life and Beginnings
Brendan Bowyer was born in Waterford, Ireland. When he was two years old, his family moved to Limerick. In Limerick, he went to school at the Model School and Crescent College. He also sang in the Redemptorist choir. Later, he moved back to Waterford with his parents.
The Royal Showband
Brendan Bowyer became a star with The Royal Showband. Showbands were very popular in Ireland during the 1960s. They played many different types of music, from rock and roll to pop. The Royal Showband was one of the most successful. They toured all over the world, bringing their music to many fans.
The Big Eight
After The Royal Showband, Brendan Bowyer formed another band called The Big Eight. This band also became very popular. They continued to perform and entertain audiences. Brendan was known for his energetic performances.
Brendan and Elvis Presley
Brendan Bowyer was one of the first singers to be known for performing songs like Elvis Presley. He was so good that even Elvis Presley himself was a big fan! Elvis would often go to Brendan's concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 1970s. Brendan performed at the Stardust Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, where Elvis enjoyed watching him.
Brendan Bowyer had a long and successful career. He entertained people for many years with his music and performances. He passed away in 2020.
