Brendan Crinion (born 11 November 1923, died 2 July 1989) was an Irish politician. He was a member of the Fianna Fáil political party. For over twenty years, he served in the Irish parliament as a Teachta Dála (TD) and as a Senator.

Who Was Brendan Crinion?

Brendan Crinion was a farmer before he started his career in politics. He became a politician to represent people in Ireland. He was known for serving his country for many years.

Early Political Career

Brendan Crinion was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 1961. The Dáil Éireann is the main house of the Irish parliament. He became a TD, which stands for Teachta Dála. This means he was a representative for the Kildare area.

He was re-elected for Kildare in the 1965 general election. A general election is when people vote for their political representatives.

Moving to Meath

After some changes to the voting areas, called constituencies, he ran for election in a different area. In 1969, he tried to become a TD for the Meath constituency. He did not win that election.

However, he still continued his work in politics. The Taoiseach, who is like Ireland's Prime Minister, Jack Lynch, chose him to be a Senator. A Senator is a member of the Seanad Éireann, which is the second house of the Irish parliament.

Return to Dáil Éireann

In the 1973 general election, Brendan Crinion ran for election in Meath again. This time, he won the seat. He defeated Michael Hilliard, who had been a TD for a long time.

Brendan Crinion was re-elected as a TD for Meath in 1977 and again in 1981. He continued to serve the people of Meath until 1982. He then decided to retire from politics.
