Breton Wikipedia facts for kids
Breton Wikipedia is the version of Wikipedia written in the Breton language. It was started in June 2004. Think of it as a huge online encyclopedia, just like the main Wikipedia, but all its articles are in Breton!
How Breton Wikipedia Grew
The Breton Wikipedia has grown a lot since it began. In August 2008, it had 20,000 articles. Just a year later, in October 2009, it reached 30,000 articles. By July 2014, it had grown to an amazing 50,000 articles! This made it the 71st largest Wikipedia in the world based on how many articles it had.
Its Place Among Other Languages
The Breton Wikipedia is also special because it's the second largest Wikipedia written in a Celtic language. Celtic languages are a group of languages spoken in parts of Europe, like Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The only Celtic Wikipedia bigger than the Breton one is the Welsh Wikipedia. Many people help make the Breton Wikipedia bigger and better. There are over 34,000 registered users who can help edit and create articles.
