Brian Roe (born 27 January 1939 – died 27 June 2014) was an English cricketer. He played first-class cricket for the Somerset team from 1957 to 1966.

Who Was Brian Roe?

Brian Roe was born in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, England. He was a right-handed batsman, which means he hit the ball with his right hand. He usually played as an "opener," meaning he was one of the first two batsmen to start the game for his team.

Brian Roe's Cricket Career

Brian Roe was a regular player for Somerset between 1961 and 1964. He had a very successful period during these years.

Scoring Big Runs

From 1961 to 1963, Brian Roe scored over 1,000 runs in each of those three seasons. This is a big achievement for a cricketer. In 1962, he scored his highest number of runs in a single season, reaching 1,552 runs.

He made four "centuries" in first-class cricket. A century means scoring 100 runs or more in one game. His highest score was 128 runs. He achieved this against Essex in 1962. Because of his great performance, he was given his "county cap" in 1962. This is an award given to players who have played well for their county team.

Later Career and Moving On

In 1964, Brian Roe had a tough year and was not playing as well. Even though he scored 100 runs without being out against Lancashire, he was dropped from the team in July.

He played a few more games in 1965 and 1966, but he couldn't get back to his best form. There was also a lot of competition for batting spots in the Somerset team. Because of this, he left first-class cricket at the end of the 1966 season.

After leaving Somerset, Brian Roe played for Devon in "Minor Counties" cricket. He also played one "List A" game in 1973. This was for a team representing Minor Counties South against his old team, Somerset.
