Brian Dwight Taylor, born on June 9, 1951, is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played for several teams during his career. These included the New York Nets in the American Basketball Association (ABA). He also played for the Kansas City Kings, Denver Nuggets, and San Diego Clippers in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Brian Taylor's Basketball Journey
Brian Taylor was a talented point guard who stood 6 feet 2 inches tall. He played college basketball at Princeton University. In 1972, the Seattle SuperSonics picked him in the second round of the 1972 NBA draft.
Starting in the ABA
Instead of joining the NBA right away, Taylor began his professional career in the ABA. He played four seasons for the New York Nets. During his time with the Nets, he was chosen to play in two ABA All-Star Games. He was also named the ABA Rookie of the Year in 1973.
Taylor helped the New York Nets win two ABA championships. They won in 1974 and again in 1976. He was known for his defense, earning a spot on the ABA All-Defensive First Team twice. He also led the ABA in steals in 1975.
Moving to the NBA
When the Nets joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976, Brian Taylor was traded. He went to the Kansas City Kings. In his first NBA season (1976–77), he had his best scoring year. He averaged 17 points per game.
He also played for the Denver Nuggets and the San Diego Clippers. In the 1979–80 NBA season, the NBA introduced the 3-point line. Taylor was a pioneer in this new era. He led the league by making 90 three-point shots that season. His career ended in 1982 due to a serious injury, a torn Achilles tendon.
High School Years
Before college and professional basketball, Brian Taylor attended Perth Amboy High School. He graduated from there in 1969.
Brian Taylor's Life After Basketball
After his basketball career, Brian Taylor continued to be involved in education. In 2012, he was hired by Great Hearts Academies. He became the executive director of Teleos Preparatory Academy in Phoenix, Arizona.
Brian Taylor's son, Bryce Taylor, also played basketball. Bryce played for the Oregon Ducks in college.
