Brian Isaac grew up on the Okanagan Indian Band reserve. This reserve is located near Vernon. As an adult, he worked in several different jobs. He spent time logging trees. He also worked as a bricklayer. Later, he worked in the oil industry.

Discovering His Passion for Writing

For many years, Brian Isaac wrote just for fun. It was a personal hobby. He did not pursue writing professionally until he retired. This happened in the early 2000s. After he retired, his wife Marlene did something special. She sent one of his writings to a festival for writers in Penticton. At this festival, Brian Isaac won an award for his writing.

His Award-Winning Book

His first novel, All the Quiet Places, came out in the fall of 2021. It was published by Touchwood Editions. This book quickly gained a lot of attention. It was chosen as a finalist for several important awards. These included the 2022 Amazon.ca First Novel Award. It was also a finalist for the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction. This award is part of the 2022 Governor General's Awards. The book was also considered for the 2022 Giller Prize. Finally, All the Quiet Places won the Indigenous Voices Award for prose written in English.
