Brian Torrey Scott (born July 28, 1976 – died November 29, 2013) was an American writer. He was also a professor and director. Brian wrote for Rosetta Stone, a company known for language learning. He also taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College Chicago.

Brian Scott was born on July 28, 1976. His hometown was Dallas, Texas. He grew up with his mother, Torrie, and his brother, Andrew.
Education and Early Work
Brian went to Richardson High School. He was a National Honor Society Scholar. In 1994, he wrote and performed his first play, EZRA. This play even won an award!
He then studied at Southern Methodist University. He graduated with honors in 1998. There, he won the New Visions New Voices competition. In 2001, Brian was accepted into a special writing program. This was at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Later, he earned a spot at Brown University. He got his Ph.D. in Theater and Performance Studies there.
Creative Projects and Travel
Brian's plays were performed in many cities. These included Dallas, New York City, and Chicago. He received the PAC/edge Commission Award in 2004. With this award, he created and directed Air Tact Light. He also got a grant in 2005. This grant helped fund his show Discarded Landscape.
Brian traveled around the world. He wrote and directed many plays and films. His films were shown at international film festivals. In 2010, he received an honor at the Madrid Film Festival.
In 2006, Brian was an artist-in-residence in Chicago. He created Left-Handed Saw Right-Handed there. This was a project with Mary Walling Blackburn. Other works he created include We Were the World and Year. He also made Detail From the Mountain Side.
Brian also created works for different theater groups. These included the Curious Theater Branch and The Neo-Futurists. His writing appeared in magazines like Tarpaulin Sky. He also wrote songs with musician Azita Youssefi. These songs were released in 2006.
Brian Scott passed away on November 29, 2013, at the age of 37.
