When Was Briarton's Post Office Open?

Briarton once had its own post office. It opened on April 18, 1883. But it closed down on May 31, 1904. After that, mail was delivered from a nearby place called Leeman.

In 1921, Briarton had several businesses. There were two general stores where people could buy many different things. The community also had a saw mill, which cut wood. You could find a store for farm tools and another for soft drinks. The closest bank was in a community called Galesburg, which is now known as Navarino.

How Did Highways Change Briarton?

Before 1950, Briarton was located right where two main roads met. These roads were Wisconsin Highway 47 and what was then called County Trunk Highway W. On October 1, 1950, a new part of Highway 47 opened. This new road went around Briarton, so the community was no longer directly on the main highway. The old road through Briarton became known as Old 47 Road.

Around 1985 or 1986, County Trunk Highway W, which runs through Briarton, became part of Wisconsin Highway 156. Highway 156 is a busy state highway. It helps connect Briarton to larger cities nearby.
