History

Bridgeland is built on land that was once part of the Katy Prairie. A stream called Cypress Creek also runs through it. In the mid-1800s, European settlers started farms here. They grew crops like corn and cotton. They also raised cattle.

Later, in the 1940s, the land was mostly used for growing rice. This continued for about 20 years. After rice farming stopped, the fields became pastures for cattle. In 2003, about 10,167 acres were bought for development. New homes in Bridgeland began selling in 2006. In 2007, another 1,234 acres were added. This brought the total area to 11,401 acres.
