The Brigach is a river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is one of the two main rivers that join to form the famous Danube River.

What is the Brigach River?

The Brigach River is a beautiful waterway in the southwest of Germany. It flows through the scenic Black Forest region. This river is special because it helps create one of Europe's longest rivers, the Danube.

Where Does the Brigach Start?

The Brigach begins its journey high up in the Black Forest. Its source is near the town of St. Georgen im Schwarzwald. This area is known for its green forests and rolling hills. The river starts from a spring at an elevation of about 925 meters (3,035 feet) above sea level.

Journey of the Brigach

From its source, the Brigach flows mostly towards the southeast. It travels through several towns and villages. The river passes through places like St. Georgen, Villingen-Schwenningen, and Donaueschingen. Along its path, the Brigach collects water from smaller streams. This makes it grow wider and stronger. The river is about 40.4 kilometers (25.1 miles) long.

Meeting the Breg: The Danube's Beginning

The Brigach's journey ends in the town of Donaueschingen. Here, it meets another river called the Breg. The meeting point of the Brigach and the Breg is very important. This is where the mighty Danube River officially begins. The Danube then flows for thousands of kilometers across Europe. It passes through many countries before reaching the Black Sea.
