History of Bristol Community Church
How It Started
The church began in 1984. It was first called the Bristol New Covenant Church. A pastor named Dave Jones from Bath, Somerset helped to start it. Before this church opened, some people from the Bristol area would travel to Bath City Church to attend services.
A New Name
In the 1990s, the church decided to change its name to Bristol Community Church. The original name, "New Covenant," sometimes caused misunderstandings. People sometimes thought the church was a secret or unusual group. Changing the name helped everyone understand that it was a welcoming community church.
Finding a Permanent Home
For a while, the church met in different places around Bristol. Eventually, it found a permanent home. This home is Bourne Chapel, located on Two Mile Hill Road in Kingswood. The building itself has a long history. It was built in 1873 and used to be a Primitive Methodist church. Later, it was even part of an underwear factory before becoming the church's home.
The Church Today
The Bristol Community Church came to an end in 2012. However, its leaders continued their work. They went on to start a new church called 'New Life Church'. This new church is located in Frenchay, another part of Bristol.
