British Horse Industry Confederation facts for kids
The British Horse Industry Confederation (or BHIC) was an important group in Great Britain. It brought together many different organizations involved with horses. Think of it like a big team that helped everyone who loved horses, whether they rode for fun or worked with horses professionally.
The BHIC included groups like the British Equestrian Federation (BEF), which looks after horse riding sports. It also worked with the Thoroughbred Breeders Association, which focuses on breeding racehorses. The British Horseracing Authority, which manages horse racing, was also a part of it. Other groups like the British Horse Society and the British Equestrian Trade Association (which helps businesses selling horse products) were also involved. Even horse vets from the British Equine Veterinary Association had a say.
In 2018, the BHIC joined forces with another group to become the British Horse Council. This new council continues to support the horse world in Britain.
What the BHIC Did
The BHIC worked to help the horse industry in Britain. It spoke up for horse owners, riders, and businesses.
Working with the Government
One of its main jobs was to talk with the government. The BHIC made sure that the government understood the needs of the horse community. It helped create rules and plans that were good for horses and the people who care for them.
National Horse Strategy
In 2005, the BHIC created an important plan for horses in England and Wales. This plan was called the first national strategy for the horse industry. It was made with help from government departments like Defra and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. This strategy helped guide how the horse industry would grow and be supported.
