Brockville is a quiet neighbourhood in the city of Dunedin, New Zealand. It is located a bit away from the city centre. Brockville is about 5.5 kilometres (3.4 miles) northwest of downtown Dunedin. Hills and the Kaikorai Valley separate it from the main city area.

History of Brockville

The name Brockville comes from an early English settler named Frederick Brock-Hollinshead. He arrived in Dunedin in 1853. Frederick started building a large house in this area. However, he left the house unfinished and went back to England.

Exploring Brockville's Layout

The main road in Brockville is Brockville Road. It starts near the areas of Kaikorai and Bradford. The road winds up the slopes that form the edge of the Kaikorai Valley. A stream called Frasers Creek flows around these slopes.

Fraser's Gully Scenic Reserve

Near Brockville, you can find Fraser's Gully. This is a beautiful nature reserve where Frasers Creek flows. It is located northeast of Brockville, between it and the suburb of Halfway Bush. The reserve ends on Frasers Road.

Residential Areas

Most homes in Brockville are found on the upper part of Brockville Road. Many smaller streets, shaped like crescents, branch off this main road. The suburb has a kindergarten and a school called Brockville Full Primary School. Both are located on Brockville Road. Sometimes, the lower part of Brockville Road is called Glenross. This includes newer houses on Sretlaw Place.

Connecting Roads

Brockville Road ends where it meets Dalziel Road. This is a more rural road that marks the edge of Dunedin's main urban area. Dalziel Road connects to Three Mile Hill Road in the north, above Halfway Bush. It also passes the city's Mount Grand Reservoir. From there, another road leads down to the suburb of Burnside. There is also a dry weather road that links the southern end of Dalziel Road to Abbotsford.

Most people in Brockville are of European descent (about 80%). Other groups include Māori (about 14%), Pasifika (about 7%), and Asian (about 6%). Many people (about 56%) said they had no religion. About 29% were Christian.
