The Bronze Medal of Military Valor (Italian: Medaglia di bronzo al valor militare) is a special Italian medal. It is given to people in the military who show amazing bravery and courage.

What is the Bronze Medal of Military Valor?

This medal is an award for "gallantry," which means showing great courage, especially in battle. It's one of Italy's ways to honor heroes in its armed forces.

How the Medal Started

The Bronze Medal of Military Valor was first created a long time ago. It was established by Charles Albert of Sardinia on March 26, 1833. He was a king who ruled a part of Italy.

At the same time, he also created two other medals for even greater bravery. These were the Gold Medal and the Silver Medal for Military Valor.

Why This Medal is Given Out

These medals, including the Bronze Medal, are given to honor heroic acts. These are brave actions done by military members. The acts can happen during a war or even in peacetime. But, the brave act must be closely connected to the duties of the armed forces. It doesn't matter who the person is or what their rank is.

There is also a "War Cross of Military Valor." This cross can only be given during wartime.

Heroes of World War I

During First World War, many brave soldiers received this medal. The Bronze Medal was given out about 60,244 times. This was for individual acts of heroism.

To compare, the Silver Medal was given 38,614 times. The Gold Medal, for the highest bravery, was given 368 times. This shows how often soldiers performed acts of courage that earned them the Bronze Medal.
