The Bronze Medal of Military Valor (in Italian, Medaglia di bronzo al valor militare) is a special Italian medal. It is given to people who show great bravery and courage. This award honors heroic actions, especially those performed by soldiers.
This medal was first created by Charles Albert of Sardinia on March 26, 1833. It was part of a group of valor medals. The Gold Medal of Military Valor and Silver Medal of Military Valor were also part of this group. King Victor Amadeus III had established these higher-ranking medals earlier, on May 21, 1793.
These medals, along with the "War Cross of Military Valor," are meant to honor heroes. A special rule from November 4, 1932, explains their purpose. It says they are for "heroic military acts," even if they happen during peacetime. The brave act must be connected to the goals of the armed forces.
During the First World War, many of these medals were given out. About 60,244 Bronze Medals were awarded for individual acts of heroism. This shows how many brave actions took place during that time.
