Kanesha Nichole Brookes (born October 5, 1984), known by her stage name Brooke Valentine, is an American singer, actress, and television star. She is famous for her 2005 hit song "Girlfight". This song became very popular and helped her release her first album, Chain Letter.

After taking a break from music, Brooke returned in 2012. She released two new songs, "Forever" and "Don't Wanna Be In Love." The second song was a hit on the Adult R&B charts.

Music Career

How It All Started

Brooke Valentine was born in Houston, Texas. She began her music career in a girl group called Best Kept Secret. To become a solo artist, she moved to Los Angeles, California. There, she signed a contract with Virgin Records and started working on her own music.

2004–2006: A Hit Album

Brooke Valentine's first single was "Girlfight". It featured famous artists Lil Jon and Big Boi. The song was a huge success. It reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, a list of the most popular songs in the U.S. It was also popular in other countries like Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

In 2005, she released her first album, Chain Letter. The album did very well, appearing at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart. This chart ranks the most popular albums in the country. She released another song from the album called "Long as You Come Home".

Later that year, she worked with rappers Fabolous and Yo-Yo on the song "Boogie Oogie Oogie." This song was part of the soundtrack for the movie Roll Bounce.

2006–2009: Working on a Second Album

In 2006, Valentine started working on her second album, which was going to be called Physical Education. She released a lead song from the album called "D-Girl".

However, the album was not released at that time. Her record label, Virgin Records, merged with another company. This caused delays. Some of the songs she recorded were later released on a special mixtape in 2009.

Brooke later explained that it was a difficult time for her. She was dealing with the loss of a family member, and she felt rushed by the record label.

2010–2013: New Music and a New EP

In 2010, Brooke Valentine announced she was taking a break to write songs for other artists. During this time, she also had her first child, a son named London. She has shared that her son is her hero and has written about her experience raising him.

In 2012, she returned to music with the new stage name B. Valentine. She released a new song called "Forever" and planned to release an album with the same name.

Instead of a full album, she released an EP called Love Letters in 2013. An EP is like a short album with fewer songs. A song from the EP, "Don't Wanna Be In Love," became a hit. It was her first song to make it onto the music charts in six years.

2014–Present: Television and More Music

In 2014, Valentine filmed for the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop. She officially joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood in 2017, along with other music stars like Keyshia Cole. She became a main cast member in the show's fifth season.

While working on television, she has continued to release new music for her fans. In 2016, she released several new songs, including "Grow Up," "#CRAIG," and "Games."
