Antwan André Patton (born February 1, 1975), known as Big Boi, is an American rapper, music producer, and actor. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, and grew up in Atlanta. In 1992, he teamed up with André 3000 to form the hip hop group Outkast.
Outkast released six studio albums that were very popular. They had many hit songs like "Ms. Jackson", "Roses", and "Elevators (Me & You)". Their album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2003) won three Grammy Awards. Big Boi's solo song from that album, "The Way You Move", became a number one hit. After Outkast stopped making music together in 2007, Big Boi started his solo career. He released his first solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (2010), which was also very successful. He has since released two more albums, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors (2012) and Boomiverse (2017).
Big Boi has also worked on other music projects. He formed a group called Big Grams with the band Phantogram. He also created the group Purple Ribbon All-Stars in 2004, which included artists like Janelle Monáe and Killer Mike.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Antwan Patton was born in Savannah, Georgia. He spent his early childhood there before moving to Atlanta to live with his aunt. He went to Tri-Cities High School, a special school for visual and performing arts, to follow his dream of making music.
Big Boi says his grandmother helped him get into music by sending him to buy records. His uncle also showed him many different kinds of music, including the artist Kate Bush, who Big Boi says is his favorite.
Music Career Highlights
Forming Outkast
Big Boi met André Lauren Benjamin (known as André 3000) at Tri-Cities High School. They became friends and decided to form the group Outkast in 1992. They signed with a record label called LaFace Records.
Big Boi's Solo Music
After making four successful albums as Outkast, Big Boi and André 3000 decided to create two solo albums. They released these as a double album called Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003, but it was still under the Outkast name. Big Boi made the Speakerboxxx part, and André 3000 made The Love Below. Big Boi's part sounded like Outkast's earlier music, while André 3000's part was more experimental.
Big Boi released two songs from Speakerboxxx as singles. His song "The Way You Move", featuring Sleepy Brown, became a huge hit. It even reached number one on the music charts, taking the top spot from André 3000's song "Hey Ya!".
In 2007, after the Outkast album Idlewild, Big Boi decided to make his own solo album. Even though Speakerboxxx was mostly his work, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (released in 2010) was his first official solo album. This album was praised by music critics for its creative sound and Big Boi's lyrics.
Big Boi continued to make new music. He released his second solo album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, in 2012. This album included collaborations with artists like ASAP Rocky and Kelly Rowland. In 2017, he released his third album, Boomiverse. A song from this album, "All Night", was used in an iPhone X commercial.
In 2019, Big Boi performed at the Super Bowl LIII halftime show, which is a very big event. In 2021, he shared that he had recorded a song with Kate Bush, an artist he has admired for a long time.
