What is Brookhaven?

Brookhaven is a community within the larger city of Fresno. It's known for its close-knit feel and its journey to become a safer place for its residents.

How Brookhaven Got Its Name

For a time, this area was sometimes called "Dogpound" because of safety concerns and challenges from certain groups. To help make the neighborhood better and safer, the Fresno City Council decided to give it a new, official name. A city council is a group of elected officials who make decisions for a city.

On September 18, 2007, the City Council voted to officially name the neighborhood Brookhaven. This new name was part of a bigger effort to improve the community and create a more positive environment for everyone living there.

Making the Neighborhood Safer

To address the safety issues, the Fresno Police Department launched a special effort called "Dog Track." This operation helped to reduce the problems caused by disruptive groups in the area. The police worked hard to make Brookhaven a safer place for families and young people. These actions helped the community to reclaim its identity and move forward with its new name.
