History of Broward Mall
Opening and Early Stores
Broward Mall first opened its doors in August 1978. When it first started, it had several big department stores. These main stores were Burdines, Sears, and Jordan Marsh. A year later, another major store, JCPenney, was built and joined the mall.
Changes Over Time
Over the years, some of the original stores changed. Today, the mall is home to popular department stores like Dillard's, JCPenney, and Macy's. Macy's is in the spot where Burdines used to be. The mall also has a large movie theater, Regal Cinemas.
In 2007, a company called the Westfield Group became the owner of the mall. Because of this, the mall's name changed to Westfield Broward.
New Additions and Updates
In 2013, a big 12-screen Regal Cinemas movie theater opened inside the mall. This gave visitors another great reason to come to the mall.
The Sears store, which was one of the original anchors, changed over time. In 2017, the Sears store became smaller. Other new shops opened in the space that Sears used to take up. The Sears store eventually closed completely in 2018. Parts of the old Sears building are expected to become a Powerhouse Gym and a place called Game Time.
Returning to its Original Name
In June 2021, the company that owned the mall decided to transfer its ownership. After this change, the mall went back to its first name: Broward Mall.
