The Brown Township Building is an important historic building in Ansonia, Ohio. Built in 1883, this two-story building has always been a key landmark in Ansonia and Brown Township. For many years, its first floor was used for important community services. These included the village post office, the fire station, and offices for local government. It was also a place where people could vote.

Even today, some of these uses continue, like the government offices and the voting area. The upper floor has always been a busy community center. It has hosted many social events and gatherings over the years for everyone in the village and township.

A Look at Its Design

The Brown Township Building was designed by John Fryberger from a company called Spitzer and Company, located in Toledo. O.J. Hager oversaw the building's construction. The building's walls are made of brick. You can see many beautiful decorations made from brick and metal. These special touches are found along the roofline and around the main entrance and windows. The building's style is called Italianate, which was popular in the late 1800s.

Why This Building is Historic

The Brown Township Building is considered a historic site because it has kept its original look so well. It also played a big part in the local history of Ansonia. Even though it was built a long time ago, its importance continued even after World War II.

Because of its special history and design, the National Park Service decided to add the building to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. The Brown Township Building is the only building in Ansonia that is on this special list.
