Bruce George Ronald Murray is a special kind of nobleman called a Duke. He is the 12th Duke of Atholl. He was born in South Africa on April 6, 1960.
He is also the chief, or leader, of a big Scottish family group called Clan Murray. As the Duke of Atholl, he has a very rare privilege. He can raise Europe's only legal private army. This army is called the Atholl Highlanders. This special right was given to his family by Queen Victoria in 1844. She visited their home, Blair Atholl, and was very impressed.

Early Life and Training
Bruce George Ronald Murray is the older son of John Murray, 11th Duke of Atholl. His mother is Margaret Yvonne Leach. He finished high school in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1979.
After school, he studied at Saasveld Forestry College. Then, he served two years in the South African army. He is still a volunteer in a military group called the Transvaal Scottish Regiment. He holds the rank of lieutenant there.
Before becoming Duke, he managed a tea plantation. Later, he ran a business that made signs for buildings.
A Unique Army: The Atholl Highlanders
In 2000, Bruce Murray joined the Atholl Highlanders. He was given the rank of lieutenant colonel. This is the special private army linked to his family. It is a unique tradition in Europe.
Becoming the Duke
On May 15, 2012, his father, the 11th Duke, passed away. Bruce Murray then became the 12th Duke of Atholl. He inherited all his father's titles and responsibilities. This included leading Clan Murray and overseeing the Atholl Highlanders.
