The country of Brunei and the United Kingdom are good friends! They have a special connection called diplomatic relations. This means their governments talk to each other and work together. Brunei has a special office called a High Commission in London, which is like an embassy. The United Kingdom also has a High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei's capital city. Both countries are part of the Commonwealth of Nations, a group of countries that used to be connected to the British Empire. They share a long history and have had a strong, friendly relationship since the 1800s. The royal families of both countries are also very close.

Learning Together: Education Links
Many young people from Brunei choose to study in the United Kingdom. In 2014, about 1,700 to 2,000 Bruneian students were studying there. Universities in both countries also have connections, making the UK a very popular place for Bruneians to get their education.
Trading and Business: Economic Ties
The United Kingdom and Brunei also have a strong trading relationship. Brunei sells products to the UK, bringing in about £100 million. The UK helps small businesses in Brunei sell their products to other countries around the world. The United Kingdom has also agreed to join a big trade group called the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Brunei is already a member of this group. When the UK officially joins, it will make the trading relationship between the two countries even stronger.
Keeping Safe: Defence Cooperation
Brunei and the United Kingdom have very strong defence ties. These connections started even before Brunei became fully independent from the British Empire. The United Kingdom has a military base in Brunei. Soldiers from the British Army and air force personnel from the Royal Air Force work there. They often cooperate and help the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. This defence teamwork includes selling military equipment, providing training, and sharing military knowledge and experiences. The Sultan of Brunei, who is Brunei's leader, is even an honorary Air Chief Marshal in the Royal Air Force and an honorary Admiral in the Royal Navy!
