Bruno Leonardo Gelber is a famous classical pianist from Argentina. He was born on March 19, 1941. He is known for playing beautiful music on the piano for audiences all over the world.

Early Life and Music

Bruno Gelber was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His family had roots in Austria and France-Italy. His father played the violin, and his mother was a pianist. Music was a big part of his home!

Bruno started playing piano very early. He gave his first public performance when he was just 5 years old. At age 6, he began taking lessons from Vincenzo Scaramuzza. This teacher also taught another famous pianist, Martha Argerich.

When Bruno was 7, he became sick with poliomyelitis. This illness made him stay in bed for a year. But it didn't stop him from playing music! He made his first official piano concert when he was 8. He still has a small limp from polio, but he doesn't need crutches.

Becoming a World-Famous Pianist

When Bruno Gelber was 15, he played a special piano piece called the Schumann Concerto. He played it in Buenos Aires with a conductor named Lorin Maazel. People were very impressed by his talent.

At 19, Bruno moved to Paris, France. He went there to study with a famous teacher named Marguerite Long. The next year, he won third prize in a big music contest called the Long-Thibaud Competition.

Since then, Bruno Gelber has traveled all over the world. He has played with many of the best orchestras and conductors. He has also made many recordings of his music. This includes 19 recordings of all the sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven. He especially loves playing music from the Classical and Romantic periods.

Bruno Gelber lives in Monte Carlo and also in Buenos Aires.

Awards and Honours

Bruno Gelber has received many special awards for his music.

  • In November 1999, he was given the Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit from Monaco. This is a high honour for people who do great things in culture.
  • His recordings have won important prizes. These include two Grand Prix de L'Académie Charles Cros and Le Prix de l'Académie de Paris.
