Bruno Tshibala Nzenze (born on February 20, 1956) is a politician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2017 to 2019.
His Early Life and Education
Bruno Tshibala went to school in Lubumbashi for his primary and secondary education. Later, he studied law at the Marien Ngouabi University in Brazzaville.
Becoming a Politician
Bruno Tshibala started his political journey in April 1980 when he was 24 years old. He joined a political party in Zaire, which is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. At that time, the country was led by Mobutu Sese Seko.
In December 1980, Bruno Tshibala and 13 other lawmakers wrote a letter. They asked President Mobutu for more democratic ways of governing the country. Back then, Zaire had a "one-party system," meaning only one political party was allowed.
On April 7, 2017, President Joseph Kabila chose Bruno Tshibala to be the Prime Minister. He officially started his job on May 18, 2017.
In 2019, Tshibala tried to become a Senator for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, he did not win the Senate election on March 15.
A Brief Detention
On October 9, 2016, Bruno Tshibala was stopped at N'djili International Airport. He was about to fly to Brussels. He was held at Makala Central Prison for a period of time. He was later allowed to leave the prison on November 29, 2016.
