Brunstad Conference Center facts for kids
The Brunstad Conference Center (BCC) is a large place in Stokke, Vestfold, Norway, where many people meet for events. A Christian group called Den Kristelige menighet, often known as Smith's Friends, owns and manages it. They bought the farm at Brunstad in 1956.
At first, the center was mainly used for the church's own conferences. In 2000, Smith's Friends decided to let other groups use the buildings too. The old meeting hall, which held 4,700 people, was replaced with a new one that can fit 6,800 people. They also built many cabins to replace the old tent and caravan spots. These cabins are rented by church members.
Many people help keep Brunstad running and growing. Volunteers, especially young people from the church's "A-team" from all over the world, do a lot of the work. This volunteer effort also helped pay for the big expansion projects.
Today, BCC is a modern place for all kinds of events and conferences. It has several places to eat, like restaurants, a cafeteria, a large coffee bar, and even a grocery store.
In 2004, BCC was in the news when it tried to buy Østre Bolærne island from the Norwegian Military. After much discussion in the media, BCC decided not to buy the island. Instead, the town of Vestfold became the new owner. BCC then bought property on Syningen in Hallingdal.
Exciting Events at Brunstad
One of the biggest events held at the Brunstad Conference Center each year is the Arctic Equestrian Games. This is Norway's largest horse show. It first took place in February 2006.
