The Brunswick River in North Carolina is a cool waterway that stretches about 6.2 miles (10 km). It flows right next to Eagle Island, which is close to the town of Leland. This river is special because it's like a side branch of the much bigger Cape Fear River.

Exploring the Brunswick River

The Brunswick River is an important part of the water system in southeastern North Carolina. It helps connect different areas and is home to various plants and animals.

A Branch of the Cape Fear River

The Brunswick River actually starts as an "offshoot" or a smaller branch of the Cape Fear River. It begins near the town of Navassa. From there, it flows along the western side of Eagle Island. After its journey, the Brunswick River flows back into the Cape Fear River at the southern tip of Eagle Island. This makes it a unique kind of river, almost like a loop or a shortcut.

What Feeds the River?

Two smaller waterways, called Mill Creek and Alligator Creek, also flow into the Brunswick River. These creeks add more water to the river as it makes its way towards the Cape Fear River.
