Bryan Baeumler (born April 18, 1974) is a Canadian TV host. He is famous for his shows on HGTV and HGTV Canada. Bryan used to be a handyman and a businessman. He turned his skills into popular TV shows about fixing up homes. He has worked in Canada, the U.S., and even renovated a hotel in the Bahamas. Bryan has won an award for his TV hosting and has written a book about home renovations.

Early life and education

Bryan learned a lot about building from his dad, who was an aircraft engineer. When he was a kid, he spent his summer breaks helping to build his family's cottage. At just 14 years old, Bryan started his own business. He did small jobs for his neighbors. Later, he studied Political Science and Business at the University of Western Ontario. He graduated in 1996.

Before his TV career, Bryan ran an air-cargo business from 1995 to 2003. After that, he started his own construction company. It grew into Baeumler Quality Construction and Renovations Inc. Bryan is the president and CEO of this company.

In 2011, Bryan launched Baeumler Approved. This website helps people in Canada find trusted companies for home services. In 2018, he became the spokesperson for HeyBryan. This is a mobile app that connects homeowners with people who can help with home tasks.

In 2017, Bryan and his wife, Sarah Baeumler, bought an old resort. It was on a beach in South Andros, Bahamas. They worked hard to turn it into a new, eco-friendly luxury resort called Caerula Mar Club. Just a few months before it opened in December 2019, a big storm called Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas. Their resort was not directly hit, but many of their employees had friends and family on other islands that were badly affected.

Bryan's TV shows

Bryan has hosted many popular TV shows. These include Disaster DIY, Disaster DIY: Cottage Edition, Leave It to Bryan, House of Bryan, Bryan Inc., and Island of Bryan. He has also been a judge on the HGTV show Canada's Handyman Challenge. On Bryan Inc., he works with his wife, Sarah. They have also been judges on "Battle on the Beach" and helped with renovations on "Rock the Block."

Disaster DIY

Disaster DIY was a show on HGTV Canada. It was about people who tried to fix up their homes themselves but made big mistakes. Bryan would come in to help them learn how to do things right. The show filmed projects in the Greater Toronto Area. It aired from 2007 to 2011.

House of Bryan

House of Bryan was a TV series that featured Bryan's whole family. This included his wife, Sarah, and their four children. His apprentice, Adam, was also part of the show. The series followed the Baeumlers as they built different homes for themselves. These included their dream home, a country cottage, and their "forever home." In 2016, it became the most-watched series ever on HGTV Canada. The show ran from 2010 to 2015.

Leave It to Bryan

Leave it to Bryan is a Canadian home renovation show. It started in January 2012 on HGTV. The idea of the show is that what homeowners want to renovate might not be what their home actually needs most. Bryan helps them figure out the most important renovations. The show aired from 2012 to 2017.

Bryan Inc. / Renovation Inc.

Bryan Inc. started on HGTV Canada in the fall of 2016. This show focused on Bryan and his wife buying properties. They would then renovate or rebuild the houses and sell them for a profit. In the first season, they bought two properties. Bryan's construction team would rebuild the homes. The show ran from 2016 to 2018. After Renovation Island became popular in the U.S., Bryan Inc. was also shown there. It was called Renovation, Inc. on HGTV USA starting in 2020.

Island of Bryan / Renovation Island

Island of Bryan is a TV show that first aired on HGTV Canada on April 7, 2019. The show follows the Baeumler family as they fix up an old hotel in the Bahamas. Because the resort was in a faraway place, building supplies arrived only once a week, and sometimes not even then. The family also lived at the resort while they were renovating it. HGTV U.S. started showing the series in June 2020. They called it Renovation Island for American viewers.

Renovation Resort / Renovation Resort Showdown

Renovation Resort is a TV show that began on HGTV Canada in spring 2023. In the USA, it's called "Renovation Resort Showdown." The show features Scott McGillivray, who bought a resort by a lake. He asks Bryan Baeumler to help him renovate it. This is similar to what the Baeumlers did on Island of Bryan. The show is a competition with 7 episodes. Four teams of contractors and designers work together. Scott and Bryan guide them as they renovate cabins, competing against each other. The team that renovates the best cabin wins a grand prize.

Bryan's All In

Bryan's All In is a TV show that started on HGTV Canada in fall 2023. In this show, Bryan helps business owners. He renovates their businesses in about a week to help them succeed. The show is sponsored by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). The first season has 10 episodes.

Guest appearances

Bryan has appeared as a guest on several other shows. He was a judge on Canada's Handyman Challenge. He also judged on Deck Wars. Bryan was a guest builder on the show Home to Win.

Awards

In 2008, Bryan won a Gemini Award. This award was for "Best Host in a Lifestyle/Practical Information, or Performing Arts Program or Series." He won it for his work on Disaster DIY.

Personal life

Bryan and his wife, Sarah, got married on September 3, 2004, in Toronto. Sarah was born on March 26, 1978. They have four children: Quintyn Werner, Charlotte Anne, Lincoln Wolfgang, and Josephine Judith.

While the Baeumlers lived at Caerula Mar Resort and renovated it (as seen on Island of Bryan), their children were first homeschooled. Later, their oldest son, Quintyn, went to a boarding high school. The other three children enrolled in a local Bahamian school. The big renovation project at the resort was challenging for Bryan and Sarah.

Sarah Baeumler has her own "lifestyle brand." She offers home decoration services and has an online shop.
