Bryan David Dobson is a well-known Irish journalist and news presenter. He was famous for working at RTÉ, Ireland's national broadcaster. Bryan presented many popular news shows during his long career. He retired from broadcasting in 2024.

Bryan's Early Life

Bryan Dobson grew up in a place called Sandymount in Dublin, Ireland. He went to Newpark Comprehensive School in Blackrock, Dublin. This school was one of the first to offer a special year called Transition Year. During this year, Bryan got to present a half-hour radio show.

After school, he studied media at the Rathmines College of Commerce. This college is part of the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Bryan's Broadcasting Career

Starting Out in Radio and TV

Before joining RTÉ, Bryan Dobson worked at a radio station in Dublin called Radio Nova. He hosted a show there called Dublin Today. He also worked for the BBC Northern Ireland before moving to RTÉ.

Working at RTÉ

Bryan Dobson joined RTÉ in 1987. RTÉ is Ireland's national public service broadcaster. He started as a reporter for a radio show called This Week on RTÉ Radio 1. Later, he became a business correspondent.

In 1991, Bryan began presenting the news for RTÉ News. In September 1996, he became the main co-presenter of RTÉ News: Six One. This was a very important early evening news program on RTÉ One. He presented it alongside Sharon Ní Bheoláin.

Bryan worked on Six One for 21 years. He left the show on October 25, 2017. After that, he moved to early morning radio. He became a presenter for Morning Ireland, another popular news program. He also sometimes presented RTÉ News: One O'Clock.

Bryan Dobson also hosted many special programs. These included RTÉ's coverage of general elections in Ireland. In May 2011, he led RTÉ's TV coverage of Queen Elizabeth II's visit to the Republic of Ireland. This was a very important event.

On January 24, 2024, Bryan Dobson announced he would be retiring from broadcasting. He had worked for RTÉ for 37 years. His very last show was on May 3, 2024.

Bryan Dobson lives in Dublin with his wife, Crea. They got married in 1994. They have two children together.
