Bryce Salvador joined the NHL known as a tough and determined defenceman. He wasn't afraid to get into fights to protect his teammates. Early in his career, he even had three fights in his first 15 games!

While playing for the St. Louis Blues, Bryce and his teammate Jamal Mayers started a special program. It was called "Jam 'n Sal's Community Stars." This program celebrated kids who did small, kind, and generous things for others.

Moving to the New Jersey Devils

On February 26, 2008, Bryce was traded from the St. Louis Blues to the New Jersey Devils. A trade in hockey means players switch teams. The Blues received Cam Janssen in return. After joining the Devils, Bryce signed a new four-year contract on July 1. This deal was worth $11.6 million, showing how much the team valued him.

On July 3, 2012, the Devils signed Bryce to another three-year contract. He continued to be an important part of their team.

Becoming a Team Captain

On January 17, 2013, Bryce Salvador was given a huge honor. He was named the 10th captain in the history of the New Jersey Devils. A captain is a leader on the team, often chosen for their experience and leadership skills. Bryce was also the third black captain in NHL history. The other two were Dirk Graham and Jarome Iginla.

Sadly, Bryce faced some challenges with lower back injuries. Because of these injuries, he only played in 94 games after the start of the 2012-13 season.

Retirement from Hockey

After playing for 14 seasons, Bryce Salvador announced his retirement on September 2, 2015. He had a long and successful career in professional hockey.

What Bryce Does Now: Broadcasting

Since 2017, Bryce Salvador has stayed involved with hockey, but in a different way. He works as a television studio analyst and rinkside reporter for the Devils' home games. You can see him on MSG Sportsnet. This means he talks about the games and shares his expert opinions.

Since 2022, Bryce has also worked for TNT during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He is an "ice level analyst," which means he gives insights from right next to the rink.
