History of Buckingham

Buckingham was named after C. D. Buckingham. He was an important official who worked for the railroad. The railroad played a big part in how towns grew in the past.

When Buckingham Was Active

The town had its own post office. This post office served the community for many years. It opened on December 21, 1888. This was a time when many new towns were being established in Colorado.

The post office continued to operate for a long time. It finally closed its doors on July 1, 1966. After the post office closed, the town slowly became empty. This is how it became a ghost town.
