Bucoda is located in the southeastern part of Missouri. You can find it along U.S. Route 412. It's about 4.3 miles (or 6.9 kilometers) southwest of a town called Senath.
How Bucoda Got Its Name
Bucoda has an interesting story behind its name. At first, it was called Byrds. This name came from A. R. Byrds, who was the first owner of the land where Bucoda is now.
Later, the name was changed to Bucoda. This new name was created by combining parts of the last names of three early settlers: Buchanan, Coburn, and Davis.
Post Office History
A post office was first opened in Bucoda in 1895. It was called Byrds at that time. In 1917, the name of the post office was officially changed to Bucoda. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1930.
