Bulbul Sharma (born October 14, 1952) is a talented Indian painter and writer. She lives in New Delhi. She is currently working on a collection of short stories for children who are just learning to read.
About Bulbul Sharma
Bulbul Sharma was born in New Delhi. She spent most of her childhood in a steel town called Bhilai, in Madhya Pradesh. She studied Russian Language and Literature at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, finishing in 1972. After that, she went to Moscow State University to continue her studies.
When she came back to India in 1973, she started a career in painting. She joined Gawri, a group of artists in New Delhi. It was not until 1985 that she began writing full-time. She has shown her paintings in many exhibitions in India and other countries. Her artwork is part of important collections. These include the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Lalit Kala Akademi. Her paintings are also at the Chandigarh Museum, UNICEF NORAD, the National Institutes of Health in Washington, and The Nehru Centre in London.
She also started writing weekly articles for a newspaper called Statesman. She edited children's books for different publishers too.
Her stories have been translated into many languages. These include French, Italian, German, and Finnish. Besides her art and writing, she loves watching birds. She also enjoys teaching art to children with disabilities.
Bulbul Sharma once said, "Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can. There will always come a time when you will be grateful you did." This is a way of life for her. Her writing style is simple. It comes from what she sees and the places she visits. She shows the beauty in everyday things, making her books very lively. She often writes about the cycle of seasons and the changes they bring.
