What is the history of Bungonia?
Bungonia was first called Inverary. This was in the early 1830s. The town got its new name, Bungonia, in 1836. The post office, which opened in 1832, was also called Inverary at first.
Later, a major road called the Great South Road was built. This road is now known as the Hume Highway. It was built to go around Bungonia, not through it. Because of this, Bungonia stayed a very small village and did not grow much bigger.
