The Burano is a very tall apartment building in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It has 50 floors and stands 163 metres (about 535 feet) high. You can find it on Bay Street in the downtown area.
This building was part of a big project to make downtown Toronto better in the early 2000s. The city planners in Toronto said that the Burano really helped improve how the streets look and feel for everyone.

Building the Burano
Who Built It?
The Burano building was paid for by a company called Lanterra Developments. It was designed by an architect named Peter Clewes. He also designed another building across the street called Murano. Both buildings are named after islands in Italy.
Old Meets New
The Burano was built in a special way. It kept parts of an older building that was already there. This old building was a car dealership from 1925. It was considered a "heritage structure," which means it was important to history.
When they built the Burano, they carefully took down the front part of the old building. They stored it safely while they dug out seven floors underground for parking. After the new foundation was ready, they put the old front part back together. This way, the new tower could stand tall while still showing off a piece of history.
Art Inside
The Burano also has cool art. An Italian artist named Sandro Martini created a large, colourful painting called a fresco. This artwork is in the building's main entrance area, on the side of the old heritage building.
The Old Car Showroom
A Historic Building
The old building that the Burano saved was called the McLaughlin Motor Car Showroom. It was built in 1925 and was one of the first places to sell cars in Toronto. It was a car dealership for 82 years!
Why It Was Saved
This old building was special because of its history and its unique "Gothic Revival" style. The city decided in 1999 that it was a heritage building. This meant it needed to be protected.
In 2013, a special sign was placed on the building by Heritage Toronto. This sign tells people about the history of the old car showroom.
