The Burd Patterson House is a historic home located in Pottsville, a town in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. This special house was built a long time ago, around 1830. It's known for its beautiful design and long history.

Discovering the Burd Patterson House

The Burd Patterson House is a two-and-a-half-story building made of brick. It was designed in a style called Federal. This style was popular in the United States during the early 1800s.

A Look at Its Design

The main part of the house is about 27 feet wide and 40 feet long. Around 1835, a new section was added to the back. This addition connected the main house to what used to be a separate summer kitchen. A summer kitchen was a small building where people cooked during hot weather to keep the main house cool.

Before the year 1900, a porch was added to the house. This porch was built in the Queen Anne style, which has a different look from the original Federal style. It shows how the house changed over time.

Why is it Important?

The Burd Patterson House is considered a very important historical building. Because of its unique architecture and history, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. This means it's officially recognized as a place worth preserving for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
