Where is Burdett?

Burdett is found in the northwest part of Bates County, Missouri. It's located along a road called Missouri Route FF. If you travel about seven miles from the town of Adrian, Missouri, you'll find Burdett to the west-northwest.

Burdett's History

Burdett was officially planned and mapped out in 1870. This process, called "platting," means someone drew up a map showing where streets and lots would be. The community was named after Samuel Swinfin Burdett. He was an important person who helped make laws for the state, known as a state legislator.

In the same year, 1870, a post office was opened in Burdett. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years. It stayed open until 1904, when it finally closed down.
