Adrian is a city located in the northern part of Bates County, Missouri, in the United States. It's considered part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2020, about 1,730 people lived here. Adrian is also known as the "Purple Martin Capital" of Missouri!

History of Adrian
Adrian was officially planned and laid out in 1880. This happened when the Missouri Pacific Railroad built its tracks through the area.
There are two ideas about how Adrian got its name. Some people think settlers from Adrian, Michigan, named it. Others believe it was named after Adrian Talmadge, whose father worked for the railroad. A post office has been open in Adrian since 1880.
Geography of Adrian
Adrian is found next to Missouri Route 18. It is also near the west side of US Route 71.
The city of Butler is about nine miles south of Adrian. The town of Archie is about 5.5 miles north.
Adrian covers a total area of about 2.18 square miles (5.65 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

Adrian's public schools are part of the Adrian R-III School District.
- Adrian Elementary School teaches students from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade.
- Adrian Jr./Sr. High School teaches students from 6th to 12th grade.
The school teams are known as the Blackhawks. The Blackhawk football team won the Missouri Class One Championship in 2002. The boys' track and field team won state championships in 1984 and 1992. The girls' track and field team won a state championship in 1994. In 2016, the varsity girls' basketball team finished second in the state.
