Central Omnibus Station in Flensburg, Germany
Aylesbury bus station, UK
A bus station is a special building or area where buses stop. Here, passengers can get on or off the bus. A bus station is much bigger than a simple bus stop. A bus stop is usually just a sign on the side of the road. Bus stations are designed to handle many buses and people at the same time.

What is a Bus Station?
Bus stations can be found in many different places. Some are outside in the open air. Others are inside buildings, sometimes even above or below ground. You might find a bus station underneath a large shopping centre.
Types of Bus Stations
There are two main types of bus stations:
- Terminal stations: These stations are the very end of a bus route. Buses arrive here and finish their journey. New bus journeys often start from these stations.
- Transfer stations: At these stations, bus routes continue. Passengers can get off one bus and easily switch to another bus to reach their final destination.
What You Find at a Bus Station
Bus stations often have many useful features for passengers. These can include:
- Comfortable seats where you can wait.
- Clean toilets.
- Travel centres where you can ask questions or buy tickets.
- Electronic screens that show when buses are coming. These screens help you know if your bus is on time.
