Business Wire is an American company that helps businesses share their news with the world. They send out official announcements, called press releases, to news companies, investors, websites, and even bloggers and social media. It's like a big messenger service for company news! Business Wire is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, a very large company.

History of Business Wire

Business Wire was started in 1961 by a person named Lorry I. Lokey. At first, it only sent news to 16 news places in California.

In May 1995, Business Wire launched its own website. This made it easier for companies to share their news online.

In 2000, Business Wire changed how it shared financial news. Before, some financial news places got the news a little bit earlier. But Business Wire stopped this. They wanted everyone to get important company information at the same time. This helped make things fair for all investors.

Growing Around the World

In 2001, Business Wire opened its first office in Europe, in London. This helped them share news across different countries.

Later, in 2005, Business Wire started helping companies in Germany share their important financial news. They also set up ways to share news in France, Sweden, Switzerland, and Luxembourg. This was to follow new rules in Europe about sharing company information.

On January 10, 2005, Business Wire opened an office in Tokyo, Japan. This helped them connect with companies in Asia. Later that year, their website became available in Japanese, making it available in seven languages.

Joining Berkshire Hathaway

On January 17, 2006, Berkshire Hathaway, a very big company led by Warren Buffett, announced it was buying Business Wire. The deal was finished on March 1, 2006. This made Business Wire part of a much larger family of companies.

In 2008, Business Wire worked with another company called ImpreMedia. Together, they launched LatinoWire. This service helps share news with Hispanic websites, news places, and bloggers.

In 2011, Business Wire got a special patent. This patent was for a way to make press releases easier to find and track on search engines like Google.

In September 2013, Business Wire started a special partnership with VentureBeat. VentureBeat is a popular website that writes about technology news. In November 2013, Business Wire opened a new office in Hong Kong.

In January 2014, Business Wire launched new services to help companies share their news even better.

In April 2017, Cathy Baron Tamraz, who was the CEO and president, retired. Geff Scott, who used to be the chief financial officer, took over as the new CEO.
