Butcher Billy's Cool Art Projects

Superheroes and Music: The Post-Punk/New Wave Super Friends

In 2013, Butcher Billy launched "The Post-Punk/New Wave Super Friends" series. This project explored what makes someone a pop culture icon. He combined post-punk musicians from the 1980s with classic comic book superheroes.

This series quickly became very popular online. It was also featured in a book called Comics Feeeever!. In 2015, he made a follow-up series. It was called All-New Super-Powered Post-Punk Marvels. This new series was shown in The Guardian newspaper.

Movies and Comics: The Superhero Media Crossover

In 2012, Butcher Billy created "The Superhero Media Crossover" series. He mixed scenes from modern superhero movies with panels from old comic books. These were the comics the movies were based on.

This project showed how similar old comics and new movies can be. It explored how filmmakers use classic comic book styles. They often take the look and feel of old comics for new movies. This makes it easy to turn comics into big screen adventures.

Batman: Nolan vs. Burton Art Experiment

Butcher Billy also did a design experiment with Batman. He combined images from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie. He also used images from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies.

By putting them side-by-side, he showed their differences. This project made people think about what is classic and what is new. It also showed how old ideas are used again in modern movies.

Robert Smith's Horror Comics: Tales From The Smith

This project features Robert Smith, the lead singer of the band The Cure. Butcher Billy gave him his own series of illustrations. He called it "Tales From The Smith."

Instead of superheroes, Robert Smith is shown on retro horror comic covers. Each comic in the series is named after a song by The Cure. Some of the art also pays tribute to famous horror movies. These include Friday the 13th and Evil Dead. Butcher Billy said this series is a tribute to the "goth legend." This collection was published on Adobe Create.

Black Mirror Art: Tales from the Black Mirror

Butcher Billy found inspiration in the TV show Black Mirror. He created comic book-style covers for each episode. The show's creator, Charlie Brooker, saw his art on Twitter.

Because of this, Billy was hired to create artwork for the actual episodes of Black Mirror.

Stranger Things: Art for the Upside Down

Butcher Billy was hired by Netflix and the Duffer Brothers. He created promotional art for the fourth season of Stranger Things. He made posters for each of the nine episodes.

These episodes included "The Hellfire Club" and "The Piggyback." Fans loved the designs so much that they were later sold as products. The posters were also used on billboards in Los Angeles. This helped build excitement for the final episodes of the show.
