Butrón facts for kids
Butrón Castle (also known as Basque: Butroeko gaztelua) is a really cool castle located in Gatika, a town in northern Spain. It's found in the Biscay area, which is part of the Basque Country.
This castle looks like something straight out of a fairy tale! It was first built way back in the Middle Ages. However, the amazing look it has today is mostly thanks to a big rebuilding project that started in 1878. A person named Francisco de Cubas led this project.

Why Butrón Castle Looks Like a Fairy Tale
The castle's design was inspired by beautiful castles found in Bavaria, Germany. The person who owned it at the time wanted to create something visually spectacular, almost like a hobby. It wasn't really built to be a practical home.
Living in a Fairy-Tale Castle
In fact, living in Butrón Castle would be quite tricky! The towers don't have much useful space inside. Also, some parts of the castle connect to each other from the outside. This isn't very convenient, especially with the wet weather often found in the Basque Country.
The Castle's Beautiful Park
Around the castle, there's a lovely park. It has many different kinds of trees, including palm trees, and other interesting plants from all over the world.
Butrón Castle: Open to Visitors?
After a while, the castle wasn't used much. Later, it was fixed up and opened for people to visit. However, this didn't work out very well, and the building was closed to visitors. Even though the castle building itself is closed, you can still visit and enjoy the beautiful grounds around it.
Who Owns the Castle Now?
In November 2005, a company called INBISA bought the castle. They paid about 1.6 million euros for it. Even with new owners, Butrón Castle is still protected by Spanish law. This law helps to keep important historic buildings safe.
