"Butter-Fly" is a super popular song by Japanese singer Kōji Wada. It's famous for being the opening theme song for the exciting Digimon Adventure TV show. This song was Kōji Wada's very first single, released on April 23, 1999.

About the Song

"Butter-Fly" first appeared as the theme song for the 1999 Digimon Adventure movie. After that, it became the main opening song for the Digimon Adventure TV series. Kōji Wada was surprised to sing a rock song because he usually sang ballads.

The song was so successful that Kōji Wada became known as the "Immortal Butterfly Anime Song Singer." This nickname shows how much people loved his voice and the song.

Different Versions of "Butter-Fly"

Over the years, "Butter-Fly" has been re-released in special versions.

  • Original Release: The first version came out on April 23, 1999. It was re-released on August 1, 2004, with new artwork to celebrate Digimon Adventures 5th anniversary.
  • Strong Version: On April 22, 2009, the "Butter-Fly (Strong Version)" was released. This was to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Digimon series and Kōji Wada's singing debut. It was his first single in three years.
  • tri. Version: The "Butter-Fly (tri. Version)" came out on November 25, 2015. It was the theme song for the Digimon Adventure tri. anime movie series. Sadly, this was Kōji Wada's last song released before he passed away on April 3, 2016.
  • Tribute Version: A second "Butter-Fly (tri. Version)" was released on May 1, 2018. It was a special tribute to Kōji Wada and served as the ending theme for the final Digimon Adventure tri. movie. Many voice actors from the show, along with Kōji Wada's recorded voice, performed this version.

  • The male voice actors from Digimon Adventure sang their own version. It was released on a special CD box in 2002. This celebrated the Digimon franchise's 100th CD release.

  • Nagareda Project released their cover on their album Nagareda PPP in 2012.
