Crispy Tenders were a type of chicken strip sold by McDonald's. McDonald's is a very well-known international fast food restaurant chain. These chicken strips were available in the United States and Canada. Over time, they were also known as Chicken Selects and Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.
What Were McDonald's Crispy Tenders?
Crispy Tenders were long, thin pieces of chicken. They were usually made from chicken breast. The chicken was covered in a crispy breading and then cooked. They were a popular menu item for many years.
The Story of Crispy Tenders
McDonald's first introduced Chicken Selects in early 1998. They were only available for a short time back then. Later, they came back in early 2002 and again in late 2003. Starting in 2004, they became a permanent item on the menu. In the UK, they were even sold on a special "Pound Saver Menu" for a low price.
Around 2006, McDonald's also created the Snack Wrap. This wrap used a Chicken Selects strip. It also had cheese, lettuce, and different sauces. All these ingredients were wrapped in a soft tortilla.
Chicken Selects were taken off the menu in 2013. They made a brief return in 2015 but were removed again. In August 2017, they came back once more. This time, they were called "Buttermilk Crispy Tenders." However, they were stopped again in 2020. This happened because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What Were They Made Of?
The main part of Crispy Tenders was chicken breast strips. They also contained water and special seasonings to give them flavor. These seasonings included salt and other spices. The chicken was then covered in a breading. This breading was made from wheat flour, water, and more spices. It also had ingredients that helped it get crispy when cooked.
The tenders were cooked in vegetable oil. Different types of oil could be used, like canola oil or soybean oil. Sometimes, other ingredients were added to keep the oil fresh.
