Antoinette Clinton (born September 29, 1985), known professionally as Butterscotch, is an amazing American musician. She is a talented singer, a skilled beatboxer, and plays many instruments.
Early Life and Music Journey
Butterscotch started playing the piano when she was very young. Her mother was a piano teacher, so music was always around. All her brothers and sisters also played the piano. They also played other instruments like the trumpet, cello, trombone, and clarinet. This meant Antoinette had access to many different instruments to try!
As Butterscotch grew up, her high school friends introduced her to beatboxing. She loved it and was inspired to learn this cool skill. She even got her stage name, "Butterscotch," from a song she wrote in high school. She went to Natomas Charter School's Performing and Fine Arts Academy in Sacramento, California. There, she focused even more on her music studies.
Becoming a Star on America's Got Talent
Butterscotch became famous across the country in 2007. This happened when she appeared on the TV show America's Got Talent. She impressed everyone with her unique performances. She would sing, beatbox, and sometimes even do both while playing the piano!
The judges were very impressed with her talent. They helped her move forward through many rounds of the competition. Viewers at home also loved her and voted for her to stay on the show many times. Butterscotch made it all the way to the final four contestants. This was the very last stage before the winner was announced! She was voted off the show on August 20, 2007, finishing in 3rd place. Many videos of Butterscotch's performances have become very popular on YouTube.
