Antoinette Clinton (born September 29, 1985), known by her stage name Butterscotch, is an American singer and musician. She is also a talented beatboxer, which means she can make drum sounds and rhythms using only her mouth, lips, tongue, and voice.
Butterscotch's Musical Journey
Butterscotch started playing the piano when she was very young. Her mom was a piano teacher, so music was always a big part of her life. Her brothers and sisters also played different instruments like the trumpet, cello, and clarinet. This meant Butterscotch had many chances to try out different sounds and instruments.
As she got older, her high school friends introduced her to beatboxing. She loved it and decided to learn this cool skill. She chose the stage name "Butterscotch" from a song she wrote in high school. She went to Natomas Charter School's Performing and Fine Arts Academy in Sacramento, California, where she focused on her music studies.
Competing on America's Got Talent
Butterscotch became famous in 2007 when she appeared on the TV show America's Got Talent. On the show, she impressed everyone by singing, beatboxing, and playing the piano all at the same time!
The judges and viewers loved her performances. She made it through many rounds of the competition. Butterscotch reached the final four contestants before being voted off on August 20, 2007. Many videos of her performances from the show became very popular online.
